Justus Friedrich rallies to win at Haltern am See
Results and highlights from 1. Aquarell Ace Race sponsored by Latitude 64 at Haltern am See.
Justus Friedrich turned a two-stroke deficit into a one-stroke victory in the Open division at the 1. Aquarell Ace Race sponsored by Latitude 64. After the first of two 18-hole rounds, Torben Casser led at nine under par, with Friedrich two shots back. Friedrich closed with an 11-under-par second round to finish at 18 under; Casser finished one stroke behind at 17 under. Friedrich also recorded the division’s best round, while the lead changed between the two rounds.
Christian Caßebaum set the pace in Master 40 and held on for the title at 18 under par, two clear of Sven Ostendarp. Caßebaum’s first-round 10 under was the division’s best opening round, and his 20 birdies across 36 holes were the division high. Ostendarp produced the best second round at 11 under and made the largest round-to-round improvement in the division, but Caßebaum’s first-round advantage proved enough.
Jürgen Schwingeler won Master 50 at even par, one stroke ahead of Mark Kresse. The pair shared the lead after round one before Schwingeler moved clear in the final standings. In Master 60, Dirk Haase finished seven under to take the title by eight strokes over Klaus Sumowski. The event drew 35 players across four divisions.
